Sarah Jane Brown is a landscape painter from West Wales. She lives in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. This environment and her previous maritime career, have instilled a deep affinity with the coast. Her beautiful and emotive oil paintings also use the landscape as a metaphor to describe thoughts and feelings. Her expressive style combines a range of techniques, gradually building up many layers of colour and texture.
“I walk the cliff tops or the beach near my home observing and ‘absorbing’ the magical junctures of land, sea and sky, the endlessly changing colours, the light and atmospheric conditions. I make sketches and painted studies to really ingrain the landscape into my memory. Back in the studio these observations are transformed with the physical act of painting, often becoming more abstract. I paint very intuitively using brushes, knives, rags and sometimes my fingers trying to capture the feeling of the outdoor experience”
Sarah Jane is a full time professional artist and her work now attracts international collectors. She has exhibited widely in the UK, and has had many successful solo shows. Recently, she’s also exhibited with The Royal Society of Marine Artists in London and The Royal Cambrian Academy in North Wales.
