Will Spencer was a Fleet Street cartoonist. He drew the daily pocket cartoon, Animal Crackers, which was published in the London national newspaper – The News Chronicle in the 1950s and 1960s. Then later the series continued in the London Daily Mail.
After serving throughout the 2nd World War in the Royal Air Force, Will went back to the world of advertising. Then in the 1950s he submitted some of his work to The News Chronicle. Success ! His series ‘Animal Crackers’ was up and running. It remained his most popular creation. He went on to create other series and was published in a variety of magazines and other media. His work has a universal appeal bringing a smile to people in many different countries.
The cartoons are a comment on everyday life illustrated through his delightful animal drawings.
