First celebrated here in the UK in 1987,\u00a0\u00a0Black History Month is an international annual month that celebrates, recognises, and values the inspirational individuals and events from within the black and minority ethnic communities.<\/p>\n<p>To mark the occasion, we are taking a look at young black artists&#8217; artwork of today. They are making a huge contribution to the conservation of race and representation within contemporary art. We think these six amazing young black artists are really worth knowing about; they tackle the concept\u00a0with huge\u00a0curiosity and passion.<\/p>\n<h2>1) Matthew Thomas<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1152\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zippi.co.uk\/thestudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/slide_277529_2041131_free.jpg\" alt=\"Inheritance by Michael Thomas\" width=\"700\" height=\"928\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zippi.co.uk\/thestudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/slide_277529_2041131_free.jpg 754w, https:\/\/www.zippi.co.uk\/thestudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/slide_277529_2041131_free-226x300.jpg 226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Michael Thomas&#8217;\u00a0work mainly explores luxury goods and African American gender interactions. This piece is titled &#8216;Inheritance&#8217;. It is a digital drawing created in 2012 and can be found in\u00a0the artist&#8217;s e-book &#8216;Love, Sex &amp; Drunk-texts&#8217;. Born in 1980, his work\u00a0tells a story and the vibrant colours he uses are truly beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>You can see more of his work at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.matthewthomasart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.matthewthomasart.com\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>2)\u00a0Adam Pendleton<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1153\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zippi.co.uk\/thestudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/slide_277529_2045544_free.jpg\" alt=\"Black Dada by Adam Pendleton\" width=\"700\" height=\"919\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zippi.co.uk\/thestudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/slide_277529_2045544_free.jpg 762w, https:\/\/www.zippi.co.uk\/thestudio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/slide_277529_2045544_free-228x300.jpg 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Born in 1984, Adam\u00a0Pendleton uses small pieces\u00a0of language to encourage\u00a0dialogue between creative and political expression, using the conceptual manifesto he calls &#8216;Black Dada&#8217;. <a href=\"http:\/\/adampendleton.net\/wp-content\/media\/Greater-New-Yorkers-Adam-Pendleton.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In New York Times Style Magazine<\/a>, he explains that the concept is a way to talk about the future while talking about the past. His images represent the present moment. Born in 1985, her artwork consists of very detailed portraits that are created with ballpoint pen and ink on paper from photographs. Incredible, huh?!\u00a0This 2013 piece is titled &#8216;All these garlands prove nothing XI&#8217;. C. This 2012 piece is named &#8216;Untitled (The Uninvited)&#8217;. This piece from 2011 is titled &#8216;Kehinde Wiley&#8217;s Benediter Brkou (The World Stage: Israel)&#8217;. The piece covers how race, sex, violence and ritual interact freely with celebrity gossip.\u00a0Born in 1982, Abney&#8217;s work tackles complex issues through a combination of pop references and storytelling.
