How long have you been making art and what inspired you to get started?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I have always drawn and painted, it was my favourite subject at school and I went on to study for a degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College of art in Dundee. I worked for a few years as a greeting card artist before working full time as a self-employed artist selling my original thickly textured paintings and watercolors. I have been doing this for several years now and feel very grateful to be able to spend my time being creative.<\/span><\/p>\n

I love your \u2018Autumn Fox\u2019 design. Can you tell me a little more about this design and what inspired it perhaps?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Thank you for the comment about Autumn Fox, I love the look of watercolor and ink together\u00a0in a stylized slightly Art Deco style. Foxes are a favourite subject of mine and appear in many paintings both watercolor and acrylic and autumn and its glorious colours are just constantly inspiring.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your favourite medium of choice and why?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I have two favourite mediums; I really love the versatility of acrylic paint, using it in a thickly textured way in my big landscapes\u00a0or in a smoother style over a hand drawn base of high tack PVA glue for my mystical animal and tree\u00a0paintings. I use 3d acrylics in these ones for added magic.\u00a0My other favourite is watercolor and ink; I love the colours and details I can achieve with these mediums.<\/span><\/p>\n

Are you currently working on anything new? If so, can you tell us a little more about the design and what we can expect?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

At the moment I am working on a large Autumnal landscape, a scene of a forest at night illuminated by a large moon and featuring a little fox and other woodland creatures.<\/span><\/p>\n

What other artists have inspired you?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I have loved and admired\u00a0so many artists over the years starting with a love of Gustav\u00a0Klimt, John William Waterhouse, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Aubrey Beardsley, so many illustrators and painters it would be a huge list!<\/span><\/p>\n

Which pieces are most dear to you, and why?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I think my paintings of mystical woodland scenes with animals and textured trees filled with sparkle are the ones most dear to me. I have had such amazing feedback for these works it gives me great pleasure knowing how much they are loved by the people who purchase them.<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you want people to feel when they look at your artwork?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I hope people feel carried away to a place of peace and happiness when they look at my work. I hope it brings a smile and a feeling of something otherworldly and magical. That would be my main hope.<\/span><\/p>\n

What have you learnt whilst establishing yourself as an online artist, and further, can you offer any advice to others starting out?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I have been selling online for several years now and have learned that you have to be continually listing and promoting yourself through social media. That would be my main piece of advice for other artists starting out, never give up, keep listing and advertising yourself, try to constantly engage your audience!<\/span><\/p>\n

Where do you see yourself as an artist in the future?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

In the future I hope to be selling more and living comfortably on my earnings (Every artists dream lol). At the moment I am just\u00a0very grateful to be able to create art all the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you promote your art and what part has social media played in your self-promotion?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

I promote my art mainly\u00a0via Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Facebook particularly has been the best platform for promotion and\u00a0using my art page I have gained many followers. I sell also on some main online galleries who advertise for me which is marvelous but as with everything else you have to constantly list new work to stay in the public eye.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
